Newcastle are enduring a fantastic season under Eddie Howe, as they sit in the driving seat to not only secure Champions League qualification but also finish third on the Premier League table.

In the first half of the season, Howe largely depended on his mean spirited backline to grind out results. In January, goalkeeper Nick Pope recorded a 10th successive clean sheet in all competitions following a 1-0 win over Southampton in the first leg of the League Cup semi-finals. Further, right-back Kieran Trippier has managed to get into the FIFA 23 Premier League Team of the Season.

In recent months, Newcastle have looked equally incredible at the other end courtesy of Alexander Isak (10 league goals) and Callum Wilson’s clinical form in front of the goal. Bruno Guimarães, meanwhile, has been an ever-consistent force in the middle of the park.

Newcastle forward hails Manchester United star

Plenty of Newcastle stars have been brilliant this season. However, when asked to name the best player he has played with, Wilson pointed toward Old Trafford to single out Marcus Rashford. The 25-year-old scored United’s second goal in the League cup final against Newcastle.

“The best player I’ve probably played with is Marcus Rashford,” the England international told JD Sports via UtdDistrict.

“I think he’s [Rashford] now come into form and people are seeing the best of him, but even before that, as someone who’s played with him and trained with him, you see his quality and how good he actually is.”

Rashford has been transformed under the coaching of Benni McCarthy at Carrington, having scored 29 club goals in all competitions this season – the best return of his career by a long margin. The Manchester United star also bagged three goals in the winter World Cup for England.
