Branthwaite demands Everton match Manchester United’s contract offer
Jarrad Branthwaite has asked Everton to offer him the same contractual terms as Manchester United did this summer, according to reports.
The 22-year-old established himself one of the most important players in Sean Dyche’s Everton side last season. His performances also displayed his high potential, which could see him achieve great heights at both club and national team level.
The Englishman still has three years left on his current deal with Everton, which reportedly earns him roughly £70,000-a-week.
But to reward the young centre-back and tie his long-term future down at Goodison Park, the Toffees currently seem to be preparing a brand new contract offer—one which Branthwaite may not necessarily accept.
According to the Daily Mail, Jarrad Branthwaite has demanded that Everton match the £160,00-a-week salary that was offered to him by Manchester United this summer.
The Old Trafford outfit made two bids for the promising defender, with the second one being around the £50 million mark. However, the Merseyside club rejected them both, staying firm on their £70 million valuation of the player.
The report adds that negotiations between Branthwaite and Everton over increased figures are likely to take place towards the end of the ongoing transfer window. However, Branthwaite is ready to turn down any proposal that fails to reach the same financial heights as the Red Devils’ offer.
Reaching financial heights is particularly difficult for Everton at the moment, as they recently saw their latest takeover talks with Friedkin Group fall through. While they remain hopeful of new suitors coming in to save the day, that is unlikely to happen anytime soon.
Meanwhile, Manchester United have taken a step back from the Branthwaite pursuit, primarily due to Everton’s firm stance on his value. Moreover, signing Leny Yoro from Lille has also moved their attention away from central defence, as they now focus on reinforcing central midfield and full-back positions.
