Fabrizio Romano names the club who is trying to sign free agent Anthony Martial
Former Manchester United forward Anthony Martial is attracting interest from Flamengo, as per Fabrizio Romano.
The Brazilian outfit are in the transfer market for a new forward following the injury of their star striker Pedro.
The 27-year-old, who is the top-scorer in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, has been sidelined for a lengthy period after suffering an ACL injury in Seleção training during the international break.
With the transfer window in major European leagues now closed, Flamengo have set their sights on Martial, who remains without a club.
Where is former Manchester United star Anthony Martial?
Anthony Martial departed Manchester United earlier this summer upon the expiration of his lucrative contract. He was understood to be on a deal worth £200k-a-week at Old Trafford.
His high wages combined with his frequent injury issues led to the Red Devils deciding to part ways with the Frenchman. The 28-year-old, who joined United from AS Monaco in an initial £36m transfer, exited the club after nine years.
During the recently concluded summer transfer window, Martial failed to find a new side to continue his career. However, since he is a free agent, clubs can still secure his services.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Flamengo have made contact with Martial, who they consider among “main options” to replace Pedro.
At the same time, the France international is also considering “several options” for his future, as per the Italian transfer expert.
If Martial can remain fit, he may prove to be a smart signing for many clubs, thanks to his impressive hold-up play and finishing ability. The versatile forward managed to score 90 goals and register 47 assists in 317 appearances for United.
