According to Italy based news outlet Calciomercato, English giants Manchester United have reignited their interest for Sergio Ramos.

The Red Devils were interested in bringing Ramos to Old Trafford in the summer of 2015, when custodian David De Gea looked to be on his way to Real Madrid.

However, De Gea’s move failed to go through due to paperwork being submitted late, and Ramos decided to sign a new contract with Madrid, thereby ending the chances of the two Spaniards to swap clubs.

After signing a new contract at Real Madrid in 2015, Ramos spoke about his decision.

The Spaniard stated: “My idea was to always be here and I always wanted to retire here if the president would allow it, and I’m thankful I have a new challenge to be the captain of this team. The priority is always Real Madrid, keeping our fans happy and winning titles.

“I’m being honest I never said I wanted to leave, I was quiet. I never said anything out of respect for my team-mates and the president.”

But now, according to fresh rumours, Manchester United are preparing a £42m bid to sign Ramos during the January transfer window.

The defender signed for Real Madrid from fellow La Liga club Sevilla. After emerging through Sevilla’s youth academy, Ramos went on to be a mainstay at Real Madrid. Ramos has won 12 major honours for the latter, also being one of La Liga’s top scorers from a defensive position.
