Paul Parker has slammed Wayne Rooney yet again, claiming the England striker isn’t even fit to tie Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s shoe laces.

Rooney has made a woeful start to the season, and despite scoring a goal and assisting twice, he has looked out of sorts and all over the place. Parker has therefore, been on Rooney’s back, demanding the striker be dropped.

Many pundits believe that his poor form is the reason for United’s recent slump – a run of three straight defeats to Manchester City, Feyenoord and Watford. They have also pointed him out as the reason behind Paul Pogba’s struggles.

He played as a striker in United’s 3-1 win against Northampton, but put in a woeful performance, having a goal ruled out for offside, and missing a sitter from six yards out. He started the season as a number 10, but was used on the right of a midfield three against Watford.

The United captain has barely looked himself so far, and Parker believes this should be enough of an indication that his time is up.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan joined Manchester United this summer, and despite him being able to play as a winger, he wreaked havoc amongst Bundesliga defenses with Borussia Dortmund while being played as a number 10 – the position Rooney currently occupies.

Parker insisted that the Armenian be given a place in the starting XI ahead of England’s record goal scorer.

“Everyone has been talking about Henrikh Mkhitaryan for a long, long time,” Parker wrote in his Eurosport column.

“He made his name at Borussia Dortmund as a No.10. So why did Mourinho decide to start him out of position in the Manchester derby, then punish him by substituting him at half-time?

“I’m shocked that a manager of his alleged calibre is putting square pegs in round holes,” he added.

“It’s happening on a regular basis and Louis van Gaal did exactly the same. Are you not allowed to drop Wayne Rooney because he’s England captain?

“Every single fan is laughing at the situation. Mkhitaryan must be thinking: ‘Rooney isn’t fit to lace my boots… he can’t even run.”
