Wigan Set To Appoint Warren Joyce As Their New Manager
Wigan Athletic are looking to make Manchester United’s U21s boss Warren Joyce their new first team manager.
Gary Caldwell, the now former Wigan manager, was sacked by the club on Tuesday, after spending 18 months at its helm. He helped the Latics win the League One title as well as secure promotion last season, but began the current campaign extremely poorly, by managing to win just 2 out of the 14 games.
Wigan already seem to have identified Caldwell’s replacement, in Manchester United’s U21s manager, Warren Joyce.

After having played as a professional footballer for Bolton, Preston, Burnley, and Hull, Warren Joyce joined the coaching staff at Manchester United in 2008. The 51-year-old has since led the U21s to 5 League titles, 6 Manchester Senior Cups, and 4 Lancashire Senior Cups.
Warren has a knack for eyeing top talent, as he was the one responsible in helping United’s young starlets like Adnan Januzaj, Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford, Paddy McNair, Michael Keane, and even the world’s most expensive player, Paul Pogba, develop and progress through to the first team.
His abilities to develop talent as well as win matches are precisely why Wigan are so keen to sign him up. But Joyce will reportedly have to face-off with a former Manchester United colleague if he is to get the job with the Championship team, as rumours suggest that Wigan are also looking at Ryan Giggs as a potential candidate for the job.
However, many news outlets believe Joyce has already won the race, thanks to his loads of experience in English football.
And as per the Daily Mail, Warren Joyce is set to meet with Wigan chairman David Sharpe on Friday, and the two parties will look to wrap up the deal as soon as possible, and begin a new and hopefully long partnership.
