Leicester Face Threat Of Losing Another ‘Kante’

Leicester City may not be bothered by relegation troubles anymore, but they have a new threat to face. They face the prospect of losing Wilfred Ndidi, dubbed as “the new N’Golo Kante,” to Arsenal or Manchester United.

The ace midfielder was signed as a replacement to Kante in January, after the Frenchman decided to try his luck with Chelsea after winning the Premier League title with The Foxes. Ndidi had rejected Arsenal’s offers in the summer, but signed a deal with Leicester in January, moving from Genk for £17m.

But his latest performances have sent all scouts into a frenzy again. He has set alarm bells ringing at Arsenal, Manchester United, Southampton, and Bundesliga’s Hamburg. The Nigerian scored his 2nd League goal against Stoke, leading the club to 4 wins in 4. This has propelled them to 13th, with 10 games to go.

Leicester’s manager Craig Shakespeare admitted their scouting department deserved the credit.

“Our recruitment department take a real pat on the back for that. We did a lot of homework on him and I think we were one of the first clubs, if not the first, to show an interest in him,” he said.

He also added that Ndidi picked Leicester over other clubs: “I think he, and his family and agent, remembered that so we were in the driving seat. When other clubs came in for him he remembered the way we went about it first. He had other options. From what you’re seeing so far, we’ve got a good player on our hands.”

The current champions seemed to have found new life under Shakespeare. They have won 4 matches on the trot, and suddenly seem as spirited as they were last season.
