Liverpool and Manchester City are now taking an interest in Manchester United outcast Luke Shaw, according to The Mirror.

Both Premier League giants are looking for new left-backs, with midfielder James Milner spending much of the season there for Liverpool and Gael Clichy out of contract at Manchester City.

Shaw, who has played only 16 matches across all competitions this season, seems on the brink of Old Trafford exit in the coming months after he was publicly slammed by manager Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese boss questioned the full-back’s focus and commitment, saying: “It’s difficult for him to be on the bench because I cannot compare him with Ashley Young, with Darmian, with Blind.

“I cannot compare the way he trains, the way he way he commits, the focus, the ambition. He is a long way behind.”

Ever, former United man Phil Neville, who was part of the scouting process which saw Shaw leave Southampton for Old Trafford in a £27million deal, believes the defender has to change his mentality if he is to have a future with the Red Devils.

But, for City and Liverpool, tempting the 21-year-old away from Man United could be easier said than done, with Mourinho believed to be reluctant to do business with any direct Premier League rivals.

Some reports earlier this week claimed that Shaw may be pondering over a reunion with Mauricio Pochettino, his former Southampton boss, at Tottenham.

Spurs, though, are right now well-equipped in the Englishman’s position, with Danny Rose and Ben Davies sharing responsibilities this term.

Both City and United have been linked with Rose over the past few weeks, however, The Mirror suggest Tottenham want £50 million for the Yorkshire man.
