Jose Mourinho Calls Real Madrid To Enquire About Striker
Jose Mourinho has reportedly called Real Madrid to enquire about the availability of Alvaro Morata.
The Portuguese boss is keen on signing a top quality striker after Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s injury ruled him out for the rest of the season and cast doubts over whether he will ever play professional football again, let alone for Manchester United.
Morata is seen as the ideal long-term replacement for the Swede in Mourinho’s eyes. The striker has established himself as one of the best and most promising forwards in football currently with his superb stint at Juventus, forcing Real to activate the buy-back clause in his contract to re-sign him.
Los Blancos are said to value Morata at around £50 million and would be willing to sell to United provided they agree to let David De Gea go the other way.
Morata has started just 11 La Liga games this season and has come off the bench 10 times, but has still managed to score 12 goals and grab 2 assists.

Manchester United have struggled for goals this season despite the incredible number of chances they create per game. Their finishing has been dire, and it is argued that had they finished off key chances in their 12 draws in the Premier League this season, they might have been challenging Chelsea for the title. Instead, they now sit 5th in the table and face a battle with Manchester City and Liverpool to finish in the top 4.
United have also recently been linked with moves for Everton star Romelu Lukaku and Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann, and are willing to spend big in order to fight for the Premier League title next season.
Signing a new striker will surely affect the development of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, who have failed to prove their worth in front of goal for most of this campaign. Both players have been used out on the wings instead of in their favoured position as the main striker due to the presence of Ibrahimovic, but have looked very promising and dangerous when played up front.
It is yet to be seen as to whether Mourinho will opt to trust his young forwards next season, or go for a more experienced option.
