Atletico Formulating Plans To Keep Hold Of Griezmann
Atletico Madrid are making plans to stop star forward Antoine Griezmann from leaving for Manchester United in the summer. The Frenchman has been linked with the English club for long, but the Rojiblancos are now trying hard to retain him.
As a part of this plan, Atletico are offering Griezmann a new contract with much higher salary than he earns at present. This new contract will ensure that the No.7 will earn as much as £10.1m per year, the Sunday Times reported. That will also make the 26-year-old the highest paid individual at Atletico.
His release clause is also set to increase according to the new terms. It is expected to be more than the current €100m figure.
Remarkably, though, his new salary will still be £2.5m less than what United are expected to offer him annually. This could be significant for the success or failure of Atletico’s plan, as one of the reasons behind Griezmann considering the move is money.

The Euro 2016 top goalscorer has been linked with a move Old Trafford throughout the season, and it is also purported that Paul Pogba, his French national team colleague, is trying to influence him.
Interestingly, Griezmann’s advisor, Eric Olhats, admitted on a French TV show that United had approached Griezmann, as he reportedly stated: “Manchester United inquired. They were the first, and the most concrete in their ambition.”
The forward is on contract at Atletico until 2021, and his team is all set to take on Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final this week.
