Chelsea have been dealt a major blow in their transfer plans, as their prime target Franck Kessie has reached an agreement with AC Milan.

Italian news outlet Calciomercato has revealed that Franck Kessie is very much on the verge of joining Italian giants AC Milan. The Atalanta midfielder was being consistently scouted by Chelsea, but it now seems like all the scouting efforts by the current Premier League table toppers might end up in vain.

Kessie has been one of the best emerging midfielders in the Serie A this season, and the Ivorian has impressed a host of clubs around Europe. The 20-year-old has put in great performances one after other to improve his team’s position in the league.

Among all the interested clubs, however, AC Milan have pounced early to win the race for the player’s signature. It is believed that a fee of around £23.6 million is involved in the approach made by the San Siro outfit.

Antonio Conte is looking at midfielders to bolster his squad, but now, with Kessie off the list, the Blues’ boss will look to finalize the transfer of Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko at the earliest. Chelsea are already believed to be in advanced talks with the French ball-winning midfielder.
