Conte And Mourinho To Go Head-To-Head For Juventus Superstar
Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United are set to battle it out for the services of Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio, as per Express.
Marchisio broke into Juventus’ first team following the match-fixing scandal that saw the club get relegated to Serie B in 2006. And after spending a year out on loan at Empoli during the 2007-08 season, the midfielder has remained a pivotal member of the Juve squad ever since.
However, the 31-year-old has fallen down the pecking order under Massimiliano Allegri this season, due to the Italian tactician preferring the pairing of Sami Khedira and Miralem Pjanic in the middle of the park. Marchisio has, therefore, been restricted to merely 13 Serie A appearances so far.
The player’s uneasy situation at the Old Lady seems to have attracted numerous European clubs, with English powerhouses Chelsea and Manchester United being two of the biggest outfits to show their interest in his services.

Chelsea, though, have an edge in this transfer pursuit, due to the fact that Marchisio is no stranger to Blues’ boss Antonio Conte. The pair worked together at Juve for three years, and won three successive league titles as well as a Coppa Italia during that time.
But with Manchester United currently facing a midfield crisis due to the departures of Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger, and the futures of Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini very much in doubt, a guaranteed starting spot at the Theatre of Dreams could definitely help Jose Mourinho’s chances of convincing the Italy international to come to Old Trafford.
The Portuguese has been on the lookout for midfield reinforcements for quite some time now, and he is expected to go all out for the signature of Marchisio, who has already proven to get the best out of his CM partner Paul Pogba in the past.
