Manchester City Favourites To Sign Luke Shaw

As per reports in England, Manchester City are at the front of the queue to sign Luke Shaw, as Pep Guardiola eyes a move for the former Southampton player.

Luke Shaw became the most expensive teenager in world football after Louis Van Gaal signed him from Southampton in the summer of 2014. The Englishman made 16 league appearances in his first season at Old Trafford, but suffered a devastating injury in the following season, which saw him miss a total of 51 games for United.

Since returning from injury in the ongoing season, Shaw has struggled to recapture his old form, and he was publicly criticised by Mourinho on several occasions, especially after his disastrous performance in United’s 3-1 defeat to Watford early on in the season.

Shaw worked his way back into Jose’s first-team plans and played his part in United’s second leg extra time win over Anderlecht – the performance which was highlighted and appreciated by the Portuguese.

When it seemed it could be a start of him resurrecting his United career, the 21-year-old suffered a foot injury in United’s 1-1 draw against Swansea last weekend, and the Portuguese boss has confirmed that the defender will not play a further part in their run this season.

While speculation rising about Shaw’s potential move to Manchester City this summer, many believe that the England international’s United career is all but over already.

Pep Guardiola is in desperate need of a full-back this summer, as Bacary Sagna, Gael Clichy, and Pablo Zabaleta are all out of contract at the Etihad this summer.

The Citizens are also linked with Tottenham’s Danny Rose and Ben Davies, but Mauricio Pochettino has already insisted that the players aren’t for sale. The Argentinian’s continuous persistence could be the reason why Guardiola turns his attention to the out of favour Man United starlet.

It is unclear whether the Red Devils would be willing to do business with their cross-town rivals, but it seems that Guardiola could surely attempt to solve City’s problems at left-back by making an approach.
