Levy’s No Sale Policy To Be Tested With £40m Eric Dier Offer

According to reports in the Daily Mirror, Manchester United are reportedly preparing a £40 million bid for Tottenham’s defensive stalwart Eric Dier.
The report claims that Jose Mourinho is a huge admirer for the England international, and sees him as the potential replacement for the long-serving United midfielder Michael Carrick.
Carrick is set to turn 36 in June, and is unlikely to sign an extension to his contract, which runs out in the summer. The club has already arranged for his testimonial, and all signs indicate that he is set to leave Old Trafford.
Dier has started 31 Premier League games for Spurs this season, but the arrival of Victor Wanyama last summer has seen the Englishman face competition for his regular spot in the midfield.
There is no denying that United’s £40m bid would surely test Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy’s new policy on keeping hold of his top players.
The 55-year-old, who is in charge of transfers, is unlikely to let one of his star players leave for an immediate Premier League rival, but if Dier wishes to leave White Hart Lane, Levy wouldn’t expect anything under £40m from the Red Devils.

The 23-year-old recently put pen to paper to a new deal, which will keep him tied to the North London Club until 2021, but reports suggest that Dier is set to demand an improvement on those terms in the coming weeks.
However, Levy has warned that he would not be offering players huge deals just because other clubs are showing interest in them.
“DL said all players were under contracts – contracts they were happy to sign at the time,” read the minutes from a recent meeting between the Spurs board and the members of Tottenham Hotspur supporters’ trust.
“They would be expected to honour those contracts. They wouldn’t have had a reduction if things had gone badly. DL said no players would be sold who Tottenham didn’t want to sell for non-footballing reasons.”
Apart from Dier, Kyle Walker and Danny Rose could also test Levy’s resolve, as Manchester City are reportedly keen on these full-backs.
With big clubs interested in their players, no doubt Spurs are in for a tough summer, and it will be interesting to see whether Levy put his principles to one side and starts paying big bucks to keep hold of his stars.
