Lionel Messi has asked Barcelona to end their interest in signing Marco Reus from Borussia Dortmund, according to reports.

Leo Messi is all set to play in a deeper position for the Catalan giants from next season onwards, so as to use his sensational vision and passing skills to kickstart attacks from the middle of the park. The La Liga outfit is, therefore, looking for potential candidates in the transfer market to replace the Argentine in their famous attacking trio.

Barca are being linked with numerous attacking talents from all across Europe, but one of the most decorated individual names on the shortlist is that of Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus.

The German sensation appears to be on the verge of leaving the Bundesliga club, with the Premier League as well as the La Liga rumoured to be his next probable destinations.

Barcelona have been one of the clubs in the pursuit of the 27-year-old’s services, but their interest may soon come to an end, thanks to club talisman Lionel Messi.

As per Don Balon, the 5-time Ballon D’Or winner has warned his club not to sign Marco Reus, due to the forward’s injury-prone nature.

The Dortmund star, who missed Germany’s 2014 World Cup triumph due to injury and later spent an additional six months on the sidelines between 2014 and 2016 due to abductor issues, continues to face fitness concerns this season as well.

He has played just 15 games in the Bundesliga and made 4 appearances in the Champions League in the ongoing campaign, scoring a combined tally of 9 goals in the process. But despite his lethal nature in front of goal, Messi wants Barcelona to turn their attention towards a fitter footballer.

This news certainly comes as a boost for Manchester United, however, as the Red Devils have been one of the most consistently interested parties for Reus’ signature. Jose Mourinho continues to search for attacking reinforcements, and this skillful German certainly fits the bill.
