Manchester City are planning a surprise bid for former Barcelona star Victor Valdes this summer.

The Citizens are currently not too far away from securing Champions League football for next season, and Pep Guardiola is already looking to get in some star players to help them for their European campaign.

The Spaniard will have to work on a couple of serious issues with the squad, and the goalkeeper’s position is one that will haunt him the most.

Guardiola spent on Barcelona man Claudio Bravo at the start of the season, but the Chile international has not been able to help the club this season, and has been very sloppy. Therefore, Pep has had to use the second choice Willy Caballero for most of the games, and he is now looking to get in a first choice shot-stopper to the club come summer.

City are being linked with a number of top quality stars for this position, but the latest name on the radar of the Mancunian club is Victor Valdes.

With 8 clean sheets in 28 appearances for the relegation-threatened club this season, Valdes is not expected to stay at the Riverside if the club go down. And as per ESPN, Guardiola is ready for a reunion at the Etihad.

The duo worked together in a trophy-laden four-year spell at the Camp Nou not too long ago, and Guardiola is convinced that he is the right man for this job. Though Valdes, 35, is well past his prime, the former Barca boss thinks that he has enough to lead his side next season.

Do you think Manchester City should spend on Valdes?

Victor Valdes was not a flop at Manchester United. He was rarely required as the first choice goalkeeper was hardly ever injured or out of form or favour…..
