When Carlos Tevez joined Shanghai Shenhua, the world went crazy over his astronomical wages. Since then, it has been believed that the Argentine is the highest paid footballer in the world – only he is not.
China is the place where footballers are known to earn ridiculous money. Ever since its aggressive expansion, the Chinese Super League has attracted big footballing names like Tevez, Hulk, Jackson Martinez, Oscar and Graziano Pelle. All these footballers are being paid a fortune for trading their European dreams for some serious money.
Tevez’s transfer to Shanghai Shenhua was one of the most talked about transfers because of the money involved in it. It was thought at the time that Tevez is the best paid player in the world, but it’s Tevez’s countryman Ezequiel Lavezzi who actually earns the most.
The upcoming German publication, Football Leaks: The Dirty Business of Football, has lifted lid on some of the strangest transfer details. The book’s latest revelation provides us with the wages of Carlos Tevez and Lavezzi. Tevez earns a mammoth £634,615-a-week, which is dwarfed by Lavezzi’s ridiculous £798k-per-week.
The total earnings of Ezequiel Lavezzi, who plays for Hebei China Fortune, amass up to an absurd £41.5 million-per-year.
The book has also revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo is the highest paid footballer in Europe – he bags £424,615-a-week. Overall, the Real Madrid star is the third highest paid footballer in the world behind Lavezzi and Tevez.
