Manchester United now face another battle with their cross-town rivals Manchester City, for the signing of German midfielder Joshua Kimmich. United have reportedly approached Bayern Munich for talks, but City’s interest might throw a spanner in the works.

The young German has been hailed as one of the best young talents coming up in German football. With Paul Pogba already in midfield, manager Jose Mourinho is looking to find a suitable partner for him, and Kimmich seems the ideal candidate, and it is widely believed that he will fight the bill at Old Trafford.

This has pushed the Red Devils to open talks with Bayern Munich, according to Kicker (via The Sun). But they face a potential battle against Manchester City, it is being reported.

Pep Guardiola gave Kimmich his big break at the Allianz Arena as Bayern Munich manager, and is rumoured to be keen to bring him to the Etihad. The Sky Blues themselves would want a much younger replacement for Yaya Toure, and the 22-year-old is seen as one.

Kimmich has also played at centre-back and right-back – two positions both Mourinho and Guardiola are struggling to fill. But his talent has seen current Bayern manager Carlo Ancelotti play the German international 31 times this season.

This will make it tougher for either of the Manchester clubs to prise him away from Bavaria. Since he is a long-term prospect, the German giants would also demand huge transfer fee, though that should not be a deterrent for the clubs.
