Wayne Rooney Heavily Criticised For Performance Against Spurs
Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has come under intense criticism from pundits and fans alike, following his poor display against Tottenham on Sunday.
The Red Devils visited the White Hart Lane to play the final game at the historic stadium, which ended in the home side’s favour, as Spurs managed to beat Jose Mourinho’s men 2-1 to not only bid their ground the perfect farewell, but also seal their 2nd-place finish in the Premier League table.
However, one man that stood out from Manchester United’s point of view due to all the wrong reasons, was their captain Wayne Rooney, who despite scoring a goal, performed poorly on the day.
The Englishman managed to complete just 2 key passes, had 3 shots, made 2 interceptions, and failed to win any of his 7 attempted tackles against the high-flying Tottenham side.
Moreover, the 31-year-old was also the culprit while conceding the first goal of the game, as his failure to mark Victor Wanyama led to the Kenyan finding the back of the net via a headed goal from the corner kick.
Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness was quick to criticise Rooney for his defending, by stating (via Express): “When we see it here, Wayne Rooney’s got Wanyama. It’s a great cross, it’s flat, it’s whipped in. Look at Wayne Rooney, he’s got him, he’s touch tight.
“He’s aware all the time, he’s aware all the time and he just gets away at the vital moment and Wayne gets under the ball. Sometimes you have to say because of the quality of the cross, it doesn’t matter what you do defending-wise. Wayne is certainly at fault for me. But give some credit to the cross. It’s a wicked cross.”
Rooney also received harsh treatment from the Manchester United faithful, who took to Twitter to vent their frustration regarding their skipper.
It is sad. Saying goodbye to an old relic, with so much history.
But enough about Rooney, it's the last game at White Hart Lane today too

Rooney needs to be arrested and charged for fraud. You can't be the highest paid player in a club where you drop 2/10 every match.

Been saying for 3 years that Wayne Rooney is a busted flush. No desire. No ambition. Too much money. Lights have gone out. #MUFC @MikeLUHG

Why not place him in the team when we have the best 11. Not only Rooney is playing there, is another 9 guys who should take the responsible too. No matter who is the keeeper.
