Michael Carrick To Be Offered A New Role At Manchester United
According to reports coming in from The Sun, The Red Devils’ vice captain and veteran midfielder is all ready to receive a new role at the club, by becoming the manager of the under 23 squad next season onwards while remaining a player for the team.
After impressing Mourinho with his stability on the pitch and the experience he provides off it, the Portuguese is ready to keep him as an integral part of the playing squad next term, and also influence the future of the club as a manager of the youngsters coming through the ranks.
Carrick moved to the club in 2004, and since his arrival, he has donned the famous Red jersey over 300 times and continues to go impressively strong at the age of 36.
His current contract with the team expires in a couple of months, and with his testimonial to be played on the 4th of next month, his time to bid goodbye seems still relatively far away.
The player has played with the best alongside him during his time at the club so far, and has won countless trophies under the management of Sir Alex Ferguson – experience which could be extremely important for the young footballers aspiring to be Old Trafford stars one day.
With Rooney all but ready to leave the club in the summer, having Carrick around sounds like a tactic Mourinho will be wise to use if he does actually imply it. The former English midfielder is an excellent back up to have, as he can play as a makeshift centre back too when needed.
