Manchester United are understood to be interested in another major striker in Europe, Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Reports from L’Equipe (via Sport Witness) claim that the Red Devils have already approached the player, and are in talk with his intermediaries on a prospective deal for his services.

United have had a shambolic season up front in comparison to the quality they possess. With Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s long term injury, and no news of a contract renewal from the Swede, Jose Mourinho is looking for every other attacking option who can replicate, if not better, Zlatan’s amazing first season for the club, which include 28 goals in 46 games.

On the other hand, Aubameyang has been on top form for the Bundesliga outfit, with a flurry of goals. He has scored 37 goals in 43 games in all competitions for Dortmund, which has put him on the prospective chart of almost all major clubs around Europe.

The Gabon international’s pace on the ball, his dribbling ability and the knack of cutting past defenders with one-two-ones might remind one of the golden age of Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson.

It is believed that Aubameyang himself would prefer a move to Real Madrid if the opportunity arises, but otherwise, there are certainly interests from both Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City. But all of these might be dwarfed if Chinese club Tianjin Quanjian decides to go forth with an £43 million-a-year deal for the forward.

The 27-year-old is supposedly the second striker on Jose’s list to bring to the club, after Antoine Griezmann. With the number of quality players in European football and lower financial burden, this bid can be seen as foolproof in case Griezmann decides not to join the Old Trafford club.

United’s chances of landing world class players depends heavily on what happens on 24th May, when Manchester United play Ajax at Stockholm in the Europa League final. A victory would guarantee them a Champions League spot and a greater reputation, along with money to bring in better players to the club.
