United Confident Of Holding On To De Gea As They Snub £60m Real Madrid Bid

Manchester United are confident that David de Gea will choose to remain at Old Trafford this summer.
Real Madrid almost snapped up De Gea in the summer transfer window of 2015, but were left raging after a faulty fax machine meant the move broke down at the final stage. They have not given up on signing the Spaniard since, though, and have made £60m bid for him, which has been quickly turned down by Manchester United, reports Sky Sports.
The La Liga champions’ bid was almost double the record fee for a goalkeeper that Juventus paid for Buffon, and three times the fee United paid for De Gea to Atletico in 2011.
However, United are relaxed on the situation and believe that their shot-stopper will choose to remain with them. De Gea is understood to be content with life in Manchester and at United under Jose Mourinho.
Despite the goalkeeper being dropped for Sergio Romero for much of the Europa League campaign – including last week’s final – he is happy to be part of a squad that will participate in the Champions League next season.
The 26-year-old still has two years left on his current contract with United, with the option of extending by a further year, having signed fresh terms with the club following the transfer saga back in 2015. As a result, the Old Trafford hierarchy feel they are in a stronger position as opposed to two years ago, when they were all but resigned to losing him.
De Gea made 45 appearances for the Red Devils last season in a hectic campaign, and despite questions being raised about the player’s focus by Mourinho, some of United’s coaching staff, and the fans, it appears that he is set to remain at the Theatre of Dreams and add to his tally of over 200 appearances for the club.
