Manchester United Could Still Land Antoine Griezmann This Summer
Manchester United have not lost hope of landing French international Antoine Griezmann, and may yet make a move for him this summer, reports ESPN FC.
Standing as one of the most productive forwards in Europe, Griezmann is attracting interests from all over England, with Manchester United and Chelsea reportedly desperate for him.
He has been in impeccable form for the Spanish outfit for more than a year now, and has helped them to the semi-final of the Champions League in the previous season.
The forward looked set to quit Vicente Calderon in what could have been a world record transfer, but the Spanish outfit were hit by a transfer ban, which will stop them from adding any player to their squad this summer. This has led to Griezmann sticking with the La Liga club for at least another season, till their ban is lifted.
Reports also suggested that United have cooled their interest in the player, but it is now understood that they still have a chance of landing the 26-year-old this summer.
“We have decided to stay [Griezmann and his sporting adviser Eric Olhats],” Griezmann told Telefoot on Sunday. “[The constant speculation and questions about his future] was pretty irritating.”
This statement seems to be a clear indication that the player is happy at the Calderon, but it is still being reported that the English giants have not withdrawn their interest from the player completely.
Mourinho has been looking at Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata and Everton’s Romelu Lukaku as his replacements at Old Trafford, but it is now understood that Mourinho is ready to tempt Atletico Madrid with a world record bid, which will be hard to refuse, if Manchester United fail to land any of their top transfer targets.
At the moment, Griezmann is out of the picture, but if Mourinho does not get his hands on a top class player, he may well move back to Griezmann as the best option.
