According to reports in Spanish publication Marca, Alvaro Morata has opted to join Manchester United after having a conversation with Ander Herrera and David De Gea during their time together on international duty with Spain.

After losing out on their long-term target Antoine Griezmann, United are now desperate to sign Morata, but are yet to agree in principle with Real Madrid over a deal for the Spanish striker.

De Gea is set to stay at United after Real Madrid cooled their interest, while Herrera is reportedly keen to play alongside Morata in the upcoming season.

The striker rose to the prominence through Madrid’s youth setup before being sold to Juventus back in 2014. The Spaniard was a big hit in Turin, netting 5 goals in Juventus’ run to the Champions League final in 2015 before joining Los Blancos again last year.

Morata’s second coming at Bernabeu hasn’t been as fruitful as he perhaps would have envisioned, as he only started 14 games during the entire 2016-17 season.

Despite the severe lack of game time, though, the talented forward still managed to be the second-best goalscorer at Real Madrid with 20 goals – only Cristiano Ronaldo with 40 scored more.

Morata currently remains behind Ronaldo and Benzema in the pecking order at the Bernabeu, and the move to Old Trafford will definitely give him more playing time.

The 24-year-old will reportedly be holding a meeting with the Madrid bosses on Monday, before United submit a £70 million bid which they hope will be accepted.

Jose Mourinho is in desperate need of a striker after the Red Devils released Zlatan Ibrahimovic last week, and the fiery Morata could be a very good signing for the Premier League giants if they pull off the headline transfer in the coming days.
