Colombia National Team Manager Urges James Rodriguez To Quit Real This Summer

Colombian national team coach José Pékerman has urged James Rodriguez to quit Real Madrid this summer.

Rodriguez endured a frustrating season under Zinedine Zidane in the recently concluded campaign, and spent a majority of his time warming the substitutes bench. With Isco being preferred as Zidane’s main number 10, the Colombian found game time very hard to come by.

James started only 13 games in La Liga all season, and despite his quite brilliant record of 8 goals and 6 assists in those games, he was left out of Zidane’s triumphant 18-man Champions League final squad that routed Juventus 4-1 – not even being granted a place on the bench.

His situation at Los Blancos has opened the door to much widespread speculation as to whether or not he will leave the club this summer. Chelsea and Manchester United have made clear their interest in the attacking midfielder and will battle it out with each other for the player’s signature should Real decide to let him go.

Recently, Rodriguez’s step-father opened up and admitted that he wished his son would leave the club and move to one that would give him more opportunities to play on a regular basis. And now, the 25-year-old’s national team manager has also urged him to make a move, as ‘the amount he plays is important.’

“It is incredible that a player of that level cannot play more often,” Pekerman said ahead of Colombia’s friendly against Cameroon in Madrid.

“His performances and the amount he plays is important. I have no doubts that the situation will improve one way or another. For the sake of the Colombian national team it is always good for James to have continuity.

“He is committed and fully integrated and his attitude is important because we ask for 100 per cent. I do not want to take the responsibility of telling him what to do, but he knows what is required to resolve his situation.”
