Juventus and Manchester United are the two clubs interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes, according to reports in Spain.

Since joining Barcelona from Valencia in a £30m deal last summer, Andre Gomes has struggled for regular and consistent game time at the Camp Nou. Despite making 47 appearances in all competitions, the midfielder only managed to start 17 games in La Liga, and he was subbed off in 12 of those games.

Furthermore, the 23-year-old failed to impress the Barcelona management during his first season in Catalunya, and according to Spanish news outlet AS, the club’s hierarchy has now decided to offload the player, so as to make space and raise funds for better midfield reinforcements.

The Portuguese international does have his fair share of suitors at the moment, with Italian Champions Juventus and Europa League winners Manchester United being two of the biggest clubs interested in his services.

However, the fact that United boss Jose Mourinho and his fellow compatriot Andre Gomes share the same super-agent in the form of Jorge Mendes gives the Red Devils an upper hand in this transfer pursuit.

Given the fact that Gomes still has 4 years left on his 5-year contract, though, Barcelona will look to recoup as much money as possible for the youngster, as new manager Ernesto Valverde attempts to sign the likes of PSG’s Marco Verratti and Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez to improve the quality of the squad.

But if Barca fail to bring in a proper midfielder this summer nonetheless, reports state that Valverde will then move Lionel Messi to central midfield, and instead bring in a quality forward to replace the Argentine superstar in the team’s frontline.
