According to reports in The Sun, Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic wants a Manchester United move, as the Serbian is eyeing a reunion with his former manager Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho signed Matic for Chelsea for a reported £21m in January 2014, and he played an instrumental part in Chelsea’s title triumph the following year. However, he had a below par 2015-16 season, and as a result, he was heavily tipped to be on his way out of Stamford Bridge last summer.

But Antonio Conte kept the player and partnered him with N’Golo Kante, and the duo’s incredible performance in the middle of the park proved crucial for Chelsea’s title win for the second time in three years.

Despite having a strong midfield, Conte has been linked with Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko, and the arrival of the talented Frenchman could put Matic’s place in the Chelsea XI in Jeopardy ahead of next season.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are searching for a replacement for their veteran midfielder Michael Carrick, and Mourinho reportedly wants either Tottenham’s Eric Dier or Nemanja Matic to be the successor for the long-serving Englishman.

Although Dier is United’s top priority, reports claims that Matic wants to move to Old Trafford to reunite with his former boss Jose Mourinho.

Matic enjoyed a worthy relationship with Jose Mourinho in West London, but there is no denying that his lowest personal ebb also came against the same manager. During Chelsea’s 3-1 defeat to Southampton at Stamford Bridge in 2015, Mourinho brought him on as a half-time substitute and took him off again just after 28 minutes.

Despite being humiliated by Mourinho, the former Benfica man is ready to put their differences aside and start fresh in Manchester.
