Michael Keane Disappointed As ‘Dream Return’ Falls Through

Michael Keane is frustrated at the fact that he might not make a sensational return to Manchester United this summer.
Ever since the start of the transfer season, the English defender was considered as the first choice target for Jose Mourinho to add to his backline.
But Manchester United’s signing of Victor Lindelof from Benfica for £30.8 million came as a surprise and a shock for the Burnley player, who was expected to man that very role for the Red Devils.
According to The Mirror, the player has visibly subdued his interest with Manchester United, as questions about playing time arose after the signing of Lindelof.
Despite the lack of interest from Manchester, it is understood that the Merseysiders are interested in the Burnley lad, as Ronald Koeman is looking for a solid defender, and is not shying from spending the bucks this summer, having signed two players already for a total of £55m – Davy Klaassen from Ajax and Jordan Pickford from Sunderland.

It is speculated though, that, Ronald Koeman is now looking at other options alongside Keane.
After putting up a solid performance for the England National side, Keane had hoped that the deal would run through its course. But he has been forced to rethink his decision, as the lack of playing time in club football could hurt his chances of being selected for the England squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The 24-year-old still has 12 months left on his contract at the Turf Moor. While it seems unlikely that he would want to continue his tenure at Burnley, he might extend his contract by another year in order to increase his value on the market, if all prospective moves seem bleak.
On the other hand, Burnley are unwilling to let him go for anything less than their £25 million valuation of him. This is a huge risk for the club, considering the player might leave on a free transfer anyway next season, without any returns to the club.
But they believe that the opportunity to survive this summer and possibly hold on the Keane far outweigh the prospect of letting him go for cheap in this transfer window.
