Barca Transfer News: Personal Terms Agreed With Marco Verratti

Barcelona are understood to be forerunners in the race for Marco Verratti from Paris Saint-Germain.

The defensive midfielder is among the hottest talents in Europe right now, and that attracts the eyes of all major European giants, including the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, Bayern Munich, and Chelsea.

But according to Calcio Mercato, Barcelona are leading the race, as they have agreed personal terms with the Italian and are now moving forward to securing the deal.

The Italian news site claims that sources have revealed that several meetings have taken place between the midfielder’s representatives and the Catalan club in the past few weeks. After an earlier indication of a preference for Real Madrid, Verratti is understood to have agreed to the deal.

Previously, the young midfielder had announced his decision to leave Paris in search of a move which would give a tougher fight for the Champions League trophy, with La Liga being a more favorable choice for the player.

More recently, his agent told Tuttosport: “Now it is clear – money is not enough. [The] appeal is also needed, and in the last four or five years, the French club have not done enough to improve in that regard.”

Barcelona’s Technical Secretary Robert Fernandez has announced that they plan to make some “big name signings” this summer window, and Verratti might be among them. After Luis Enrique’s disappointing season with the club, new manager Ernesto Valverde is looking for a complete revamp of the squad.

Verratti is being looked at as a permanent replacement for Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta, who has only one year remaining on his contract.

With expectations of a contract extension quite low, Valverde is aiming to find a solution to plug the boat before it’s too late in the form of the young Frenchman. It might come at a heavy cost for the Catalans though – €100 million.

Certain reports even claim that Lionel Messi had recently gone to a dinner with the player in an attempt to woo him to the club, expressing his interest in playing alongside each other. With Bayern prospectively out of the deal as PSG refuse to budge on the extravagant €100m transfer fee, the competition remains between Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Chelsea.

The player would be an amazing addition to the already star-studded forward lineup of Suarez, Neymar, and Messi. With Verratti’s exemplary vision, accuracy, and through balls, it can be a field day for most forwards of the game. And when such experts man the front lines, this could make it quite difficult for the opponents to contain Barcelona.
