Everton are on the brink of completing a move for Michael Keane, and have entered into advanced talks to sign him.

According to Sky Sports, discussions between Burnley and Everton ‘have been progressing well, with both sides hopeful a deal can be done’.

Keane’s name has been on the lips of many top clubs in the Premier League this summer, with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool, and former club Manchester United all being linked with a move for the central defender.

After a stellar campaign for Burnley last season, which saw him make 35 appearances for the Clarets as they avoided relegation to the Championship, it became clear that the 23-year-old was going to leave the club for a bigger team with higher chances of winning some silverware.

The Englishman was initially keen on a return to former club Manchester United, with Jose Mourinho showing a real interest in bringing him back to Old Trafford. However, talks with the club stalled, and the Red Devils ended up sealing a move for Victor Lindelof from Benfica instead.

Everton have also been keeping an eye on developments at Turf Moor regarding Keane’s future though, and have had him on their wishlist for a while now.

The Toffees have gone all out on transfers this summer, and their pockets are bulging with new found cash following the club’s take-over by Farhad Moshiri in February.

They have already completed the signing of goalkeeper Jordan Pickford from Sunderland in a £30 million move as well as Ajax captain Davy Klaassen for £24 million, along with Eupen’s Henry Onyekuru for a fee believed to be around £6.8 million.

Keane is said to be valued at around £25 million by Burnley, and should the move go through, it would take Everton’s spending to a massive £85.8 million, with more arrivals set to walk in through the Goodison Park door, as the club aims to put up a real fight to make it into one of the European spots in the coming season.

The center-back’s former club Manchester United hold a 25% sell-on clause in his contract with Burnley, and will receive £6.25 million if he makes the switch to the Merseyside club.
