Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez has committed his foreseeable future to the club by signing a long-term contract.

The Spaniard, who had a fantastic tournament at U-21 Euro Cup, has penned an extension with his club to fend off the strong interest from Barcelona. The talented midfielder is one of the most highly-rated young midfielders in the world right now, and his latest heroics at U-21 Euro Cup have only added to his fame.

The 22-year-old topped the goalscoring charts at the U-21 tournament, where his 5 goals took his team to the finals. Disappointed with 1-0 loss to Germany in the final, the player looks to move forward by signing a new contract until 2026.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Saul said: “I am very happy because at Atleti we are a family and there is no better place to be.”

The player then confirmed his dedication and commitment towards Atletico, by adding: “I will work my full potential on the field as always to pay back the trust that the club is giving to me. I’d like to thank all my team-mates and the coaching staff for their help day by day so that I can be the player I am today.”

Sporting director Jose Luis Caminero also spoke of his delight over Saul’s renewal, by stating: “Saul is an example for all the kids in our academy. An example of giving, teamwork, solitary on the field and an impressive quality.

“He is an all-around player, with great aerial power, an amazing long distance shooting skill, a tireless worker, a young player with lots of experiences. We should feel happy for the agreement we reached because he is such a great player and there are no limits to his growth.”
