Bundesliga Transfer News: West Ham Eye Chicharito Move

West Ham have begun initial talks with Bayer Leverkusen over the possibility of a move for Javier Hernandez, according to Sky Sports sources.

The Hammers are desperate to sign a quality striker who can guarantee goals, and see Hernandez as an option who can do just that.

‘Chicharito’, as he is affectionately known, could be set to leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer. His current deal with the Bundesliga club runs out at the end of next season, and Leverkusen may be reluctant to let him leave for free next year and could decide to cash in on him.

The Mexican has a release clause of around £13 million in his current contract with the Germans, and the amount should be more than feasible for the club.

The Londoners have also been keeping an eye on Olivier Giroud, whose Arsenal career could be set to come to an end, as the Gunners are on the verge of completing a club-record deal for Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette.

Hernandez’s experience in the Premier League could prove to be a big bonus to West Ham, with the striker being fondly remembered for his five-year spell at Old Trafford.

He is well known as a poacher, and scored 17 goals in 26 appearances for Leverkusen in his first season with the club. His output reduced last season, as he managed only 11 goals in the Bundesliga, but his ability is undoubted.

Michy Batshuayi is another striker targeted by Slaven Bilic. The Chelsea man has struggled for game time under Antonio Conte, and has grown frustrated with life at Stamford Bridge.

However, with Diego Costa’s future hanging in the balance and a move for Romelu Lukaku on the cards, it seems increasingly likely that the striker will be on his way out of the club. If he does leave, West Ham will definitely attempt to pounce.
