Antonio Conte is set to demand showdown talks with Chelsea on Monday, as a lack of transfer activity threatens to leave him short changed ahead of next season’s defence of the Premier league title, reports the Express.

The English champions, who kickstart their campaign against Burnley next month, have largely remained static in the transfer market so far, with only defensive reinforcements Antonio Rudiger and Willy Caballero added to the squad.

Chelsea had spent most of the summer courting Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku, but recent developments have seen league rivals Man Utd swoop in and sign the player, reportedly leaving Blues gaffer Antonio Conte ‘livid’ with anger at being pipped to the player he envisaged leading the line next season.

The Italian masterminded a remarkable turnaround last season, after defeats to Liverpool and Arsenal threatened to leave his future in jeopardy. A stunning tactical tweak later, Chelsea were romping to the title, and every side in the country had switched formations to match Conte’s own change, making winning the title next season a more stern task already.

Conte, who has already told his main striker Diego Costa that he’s not in his plans next season, must now look elsewhere in order to find a new striker before the window slams shut. Losing out on the hulking Belgian to Jose Mourinho no doubt throws a spanner in the works, leaving Conte frustrated, and considering his future.

Roman Abramovich is a huge fan, and would be loath to see him leave, but must act swiftly to supply his manager with the players he wants ahead of the new season, knowing he would not be short of suitors should he choose to walk.

Inter Milan had strongly been linked as potential suitors to Conte, before conceding defeat in their attempt to land him and settling for Luciano Spalletti instead.

The latest uncertainty surrounding Conte has been put down to Italian clubs who would stand to benefit from him leaving Chelsea, but there’s no doubt that there is no smoke without fire, and that the Chelsea transfer committee’s shortcomings have left the manager extremely concerned.
