Luke Shaw may still have a chance to save his Manchester United career and become the club’s first-choice left-back, after having impressed Jose Mourinho with his dedication towards training and rehabilitation since returning to Carrington.

Since joining United in a massive £30 million deal from Southampton in 2014, Shaw suffered 17 injuries and illnesses, for which he was widely criticized by former United boss Louis van Gaal.

And after once again missing majority of last season due to injury, Jose Mourinho too, criticized the 22-year-old’s fitness, putting his United future in serious doubt.

But according to ESPN, the Portuguese tactician has now given the youngster a final chance to become the first-choice left-back for the upcoming season, if he can prove his fitness.

The Englishman is currently with the United squad in America for the Red Devils’ pre-season tour, and has been reportedly training alone at the UCLA facilities in Los Angeles.

It was reported that the Old Trafford outfit was interested in Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba, who had a falling out with former manager Luis Enrique towards the end of last season. But with Ernesto Valverde’s appointment, Alba is reportedly more settled at the club now, which has more or less come as a blessing in disguise for Shaw.

The England international is not expected to play during the pre-season tour, but United would be hoping that he recovers completely and becomes match-fit before the start of their Champions League campaign in September.

However, Shaw is said to be targeting the opening Premier League fixture against West Ham to make a return to regular first-team action.
