Gareth Bale could finally be on his way to Manchester United, as Real Madrid aim to raise funds in order to bring in Kylian Mbappe.

The ‘Mbappe to Real’ saga has been the main topic for a majority of this summer transfer window, and things finally seem to be heating up, as the beginning of the new season approaches. The Spanish giants have preparing for the teenage sensation’s arrival, and have said farewell to a number of their stars in order to free up the payroll.

The likes of Alvaro Morata, Danilo, James Rodriguez, Diego Llorente, Mariano Diaz, Burgui, Pepe, and Fabio Coentrao have all left the La Liga and Champions League double winners this summer, and Real have managed to recoup over £100 million in the process.

Monaco, though, are desperate to hold on to Mbappe, and have repeatedly continued to increase their valuation of the player in order to stave off the unremitting interest from Los Blancos.

The French champions are now said to value the 18-year-old at a ginormous sum of £160 million, but that hasn’t done the trick just yet. Man City have now also joined the race for the Frenchman, in what would be the most surprising transfers of the summer.

According to Sam Lee, a correspondent for Goal.com, City believe Madrid are considering the thought of selling Bale in order to raise more funds to meet Monaco’s valuation. He tweeted out saying: ‘City are under the impression Madrid need to raise funds so they can afford Mbappe. They’ve heard Bale could go to United’

Several newspapers have reported in recent weeks that a fee has been agreed between Real and Monaco for the transfer of Mbappe, though there has been no confirmation to these claims.

Zinedine Zidane will be eager to complete the move as soon as possible, as the start of the new season draws ever closer, with a game against Manchester United in the UEFA Super Cup on August 8th to kick things off.
