Sergi Roberto: Chelsea Target In Contact With Mourinho Over Summer Move

Barcelona’s Sergi Roberto is the latest name to be linked with a summer move to Manchester United.

The Spanish star impressed for the Catalans last season, and is making the transfer rounds with a potential exit from Nou Camp in recent weeks.

According to Spanish outlet Diario Gol, United are interested in the Spaniard, with rivals Chelsea too fielding enquiries for the player. The versatile player would be a key addition to any squad, and that has seen both the English clubs pursue the midfielder’s services.

Besides a role in midfield, Roberto can operate as a winger and a full-back. The youngster enjoyed a good season last term for Barca, and started 39 games in all competitions, netting one goal and chipping in with six assists.

Reports state that Roberto is open to joining United this term, and is keen to play under Jose Mourinho, as the latter has also been in contact with him.

Roberto wants assurance from new Barca manager Ernesto Valverde on whether he will get enough game time this season, as he feels chances could be hard to come by.

Mourinho wants a winger to complete his summer spending haul, but he has already see a deal for Ivan Perisic stall, after Inter Milan refused to bend down on their valuation.

The Mancunian giants already have a host of midfielders at their disposal, including new signing Nemanja Matic from Chelsea, so it will be interesting to see whether Roberto gets enough chances in the centre of the Old Trafford pitch.

Roberto’s versatility could certainly help United on the wings, but Jose is keen on signing a proven winger to add more cutting edge to his side in the attacking third. Therefore, the coming few days will be interesting, as teams around Europe get ready for the upcoming season that starts this month.
