Mourinho Confirms Talks Over Re-Signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has confirmed that his side are in talks with Zlatan Ibrahimovic over a potential extended stay.
The Swedish striker’s spell at the club seemingly came to an end following a horrific injury he suffered last season, during the Europa League quarter-finals. Ibrahimovic was soon released by the Red Devils at the end of the season, but United offered a generous gesture by providing him complete access to the club’s training facilities.
Following a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, the forward had a fruitful campaign in England last time around, bagging 28 goals and 8 assists, while also helping his side secure the Europa League title, as they beat Ajax 2-0 in the final and earned a Champions League spot for the upcoming season.
Interestingly enough, though the Swede isn’t expected to make a comeback before the end of this year, Mourinho has expressed his wishes to keep him while confirming the possibility of an extended stay.

“You know he’s injured, he needs time to recover, he’s not ready to play,” said the Portuguese. “It’s not something urgent, that we are desperate to have it done or not done, I just think that he was very clear by showing what he did last year was not enough for him.
“He thinks he can do more and wants more at the highest level, so we’re having conversations and we’re discussing the possibility of him to stay with us for the second part of the season.”
Adding to the situation, Ibrahimovic was spotted alongside the infamous Mino Raiola recently, where he also promised “a big announcement on his future” soon. The pair are certainly sparking curiosity among the fans as well as the media.
Meanwhile, Mourinho has already secured the services of Romelu Lukaku, and having a lethal goalscorer like Zlatan as backup could prove to be very useful towards the end of the campaign. The 35-year-old is currently a free agent, and is expected announce his stay at Old Trafford soon.
