Anthony Martial Could Leave Manchester United Because Of Marcus Rashford

Arsenal legend Charlie Nicholas feels that Anthony Martial has to leave Manchester United in order to get regular first team football under his belt.

After signing from Monaco in 2015, the talented Frenchman had a decent first season, wherein he scored 17 goals and registered 9 assists to his name. However, the arrival of Jose Mourinho in the following season limited Martial’s game time, plus he was struggled with various injuries and failed to make much impact for the team.

Despite enduring a difficult start under Jose, Martial came back strongly in the preseason of the current campaign, and in fact, he was one of the top performers for the Red Devils in America.

With some great performance under his belt before the Premier League, it looked like the 21-year-old will cement his place in the starting XI for the opening game against West Ham. However, Mourinho had other ideas, as the Portuguese manager started Rashford ahead of the in-form Martial on the left flank.

With Tottenham Hotspur strongly linked with Martial for the past few days, there is no denying that Mourinho’s decision on Sunday puts the Frenchman’s future at Old Trafford into further scrutiny.

And Arsenal legend Nicholas Charlie feels that the former Monaco man has to leave Old Trafford in order to get more minutes under his belt. The 55-year-old also believes that Mourinho will give more preference to Rashford than Martial.

“I would like to think Rashford will be in,” Nicholas said on Sky Sports. “I don’t see much opportunity for Martial, I think he might have to be squeezed out.

He continued: “Jose says he’s not going to cry if he doesn’t get another one in but yet he’s happy to get Zlatan back. Rashford to me really did prove a point to him last season with Zlatan. He played on the left, he played on the right. I think the kid is ready and is perfect to get into the setup at Manchester United.”

That is wishful thinking from Nicholas. Anthony Martial is going nowhere, not even to Arsenal.
