Jose Mourinho has decided to keep Luke Shaw at Old Trafford and give him a chance to prove himself, according to The Times.

Luke Shaw has been one of the fringe players at Manchester United under Jose Mourinho. Though the defender has been out injured for a long time, he still hasn’t found himself in the good books of the Portuguese tactician.

As a result, many believed that the English full-back had no future at Manchester United, and that he would be sold during the summer transfer window.

However, contrary to the popular belief, Mourinho has decided to keep the highly rated player at the club after being impressed by him in the pre-season tour.

The former Southampton defender is set to stay, with talks of him extending his contract with the Red Devils believed to be ongoing. He had arrived at Manchester United in 2014 for a total fee of €37.5 million.

Shaw, who has been out injured since April, is already back in training, as he steps up his recovery. The defender will be considered for selection from next month by the Jose Mourinho, and the English international will compete with Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian for the left-back position.
