Manchester City officials are on red alert, as Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta has admitted of ‘considering his future’ for the first time in his career.

The living legend has been a part of Barcelona since the age of eight, and became an icon and fan-favourite in Catalonia due to his undoubted skills on the pitch and loyalty.

Though the Spaniard was never an out-and-out goalscorer, his partnership alongside Xavi and Lionel Messi produced some of the most beautiful displays of football the Nou Camp had ever witnessed. Moreover, his World Cup winner status earned him a special place in the hearts of Spanish football fanatics.

However, Iniesta is yet to sign a contract extension at Barca despite the fact that it expires this summer. And, during a recent interview with El Pais, the talented playmaker revealed his intentions of scouting new challenges elsewhere.

“Right now, I still have not signed a new contract,” the midfielder admitted. “I have felt many strange feelings for the first time, but I think this may be normal. It is a situation I could never have imagined three years ago. Basically, I’m considering my future, which is something I would never have done before.”

Meanwhile, amidst links with Messi for a possible move, City might be considering a last-minute snatch for the La Masia graduate. Also, the Premier League giants are not afraid to splash the cash, as evident from their recent transfer activities.

Moreover, boss Pep Guardiola might just find the best replacement he could possibly get for Yaya Toure. And though being Iniesta’s former boss in the past might give Guardiola an advantage, it is yet to be seen how strong the Catalans’ resolve is to keep the former Spanish international.

The 33-year-old’s contract expires this summer, and his recent statements have gotten European elites digging for cash for his signature, which the Mancunians seem to have plenty of.
