In an Instagram video by Dele Alli, Kyle Walker revealed Eric Dier’s intentions of joining Manchester United in July.

It’s common knowledge that Manchester United wanted to sign Tottenham’s Eric Dier in the transfer window. However, the negotiations between the two clubs were unsuccessful, due to which Jose Mourinho turned his attentions to Nemanja Matic.

Eventually, the Portuguese coach brought the Serbian midfielder to Old Trafford, but his first choice was believed to be Dier all along. And now, it has been revealed that Dier too, wanted the Manchester United move as much as the club wanted him.

Dele Alli was filming a live video on his Instagram, when Dier jokingly called Kyle Walker ‘traitor’ for joining Manchester City. The right-back didn’t take it well, as he replied: “It was alright when you [Dier] wanted to go to United.”

Sensing the controversy that might follow, Dele Alli was quick to delete his video from the Instagram, but not before enough people had seen the comments. The news even made it to the England press conference, before the Lions faced Malta in a World Cup qualifier.

The right-back requested football fans to not take his words seriously, by saying: “It’s all just a bit of friendly banter I wouldn’t read too much into it.”
