Alexis Sanchez and his agent were left fuming on the deadline day in England, which closes a day before it does in Spain, when Arsenal pulled out of a transfer after failing to secure Thomas Lemar as a replacement. Frustrated with the situation, the Arsenal player tried to get a transfer to Real Madrid on the deadline day in Spain.

Sanchez had told Arsenal that he wanted to leave them in order to play Champions League football. Arsene Wenger even opened the door for him on the deadline day, but the complication in Lemar deal prevented Sanchez from leaving. As a result, Alexis enters the last year of his contract at Emirates with no intention of extending it.

The two star players at Arsenal, Sanchez and Ozil, have begun their last year of contracts at the club. Although Ozil has stated that he wants to sign a new contract, no imminent extension is in the offing for the German. Wenger faces the prospect of letting his star players leave for free at the end of the season.
