Jose Mourinho Indicates Club Is Working To Finalise Six Deals
Jose Mourinho seeks to renew the contracts of six Manchester United players who have entered final year of their current deals.
Ashley Young, Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw, Daley Blind, Juan Mata, and Sam Johnstone have all entered the final year of their contracts. Although the club reserves an option to trigger a year-long extension on the contracts of all the six players, Mourinho is keen to extend the players’ deals nonetheless.
It is believed that Manchester United are seeking to avoid a situation like Arsenal, where they have important players like Sanchez and Ozil in their last year of contracts. The Gunners’ duo is nowhere near signing a new contract, which is why there is a lot of uncertainty around the squad – something the Red Devils wish to avoid.
Ander Herrera was one of the stars at Manchester United last season, and the Spaniard is reportedly wanted by Barcelona. Yet, Jose Mourinho is confident of keeping the tireless midfielder at the club. Luke Shaw is also staying put at the club, after the Portuguese manager decided to give him a chance.
When quizzed about having an option of additional year in contracts of the players, Mourinho said: “Of course it makes a difference. When the club has a one-year option it means they have one more year of contract so nobody is in the last year.
“The only two players are Zlatan and Carrick – two players at the end of the season who are going to sit, analyse what they did and what they want to do. All the other players are under the club control until end of the 2018-19 season. We are speaking about June [20]19. No player ends his contract.”
