What Luis Suarez Told Dembele Prior To His Barcelona Debut
Barcelona’s record signing, Ousmane Dembele, made his debut in a stunning 5-0 thrashing of Espanyol this weekend, and following their victory, he revealed the special thing that Luis Suarez told him before the match.
The Frenchman joined the Catalans from Dortmund as a replacement for Neymar, who departed for Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain this summer. Dembele was expected to produce the same intensity and performance he displayed in the Bundesliga, and match the Brazilian’s quality, and that is exactly what he did.
Coming off the bench as a substitute for Gerard Deulofeu, the youngster marked his “dream” Barca debut at the Nou Camp with a delightful assist for Suarez, who made sure the ball saw the net. However, after the pre-match conversation with his Uruguayan teammate in the dressing room, Dembele sensed a touch of Deja Vu.
Whilst boss Ernesto Valverde fed advice and support to the talented winger, the former Liverpool man had something else to express. “Suarez said to me to give him the ball and he would score. I did it and he scored, I’m very happy,” revealed Dembele (BeIN Sports via Sport).
Typical of Suarez, both as a person and as a goalscorer, as it seems like it is actually that simple for the striker. The 21-year-old also admitted that he finally “fulfilled a dream” when he first wore the Blaugrana shirt for the first time. Though he might be struggling to learn Spanish, that is certainly not the case on the pitch.
