Anderlecht sporting director Herman Van Holsbeeck has revealed that Leander Dendoncker was desperate to move to a big club like Manchester United, and was disappointed for not sealing a summer switch.

Leander Dendoncker has been earmarked as one of the brightest prospects in world football, and his exploits in the heart of Weilers’ midfield last season was pivotal to Anderlecht winning the Belgian league for the record 34th time.

Considering his incredible performances, it was expected that the talented midfielder would seal a summer move to a big club, with Manchester United, Everton, and AC Milan all linked with him.

Despite continuous speculations on the player’s future throughout the summer transfer window, the 6 feet 2 inch midfielder remains at Anderlecht, as none of the clubs officially submitted bids to lure the midfielder away from Belgium.

And now, with just two weeks after the completion of the summer transfer window, it is being reported that Dendoncker was disappointed about not sealing a dream move to Manchester United.

The Red Devils were reportedly in touch with the Dendonckers’ representatives, but cooled off their interest after signing Nemanja Matic from Chelsea. This led to the disappointment of the player, and Anderlecht director Herman Van Holsbeeck admitted that the 22-year-old showed his frustration during training about the lack of transfer activity

Speaking to Sport Foot via (Goal.com), the chief revealed: “He showed his disappointment during training at not being transferred. His mate, Tielemans, went to Monaco, he was training with the national team and he wanted, like them, to play in the biggest leagues.”

Owing to the frustration of not securing a summer move, Dendocker has also started the new campaign on a bad note, as Anderlecht suffered three defeats in five matches, including a 3-0 thrashing against Bayern Munich in the Champions League opener this weekend.
