Injury Update: Pogba Could Be Out For Much Longer Than Originally Thought
Paul Pogba will reportedly be out of action for the next three months, after the Frenchman suffered a hamstring injury against Basel in the Champions League.
Pogba was subbed off in the 18th minute of United’s 3-0 Champions League win against the Swiss giants at Old Trafford on Tuesday, after the 24-year-old clutched his left hamstring. The midfielder was later seen leaving the stadium in crutches, but the extent of his injury was yet to be determined.
But now, according to the report from The Times, the France international’s injury is even worse than it was initially suspected to be. United’s medical staff reportedly believes that he may be sidelined for up to three months of the season.
The Frenchman’s initial MRI scans suggest a grade three tear, with potential tendon damage which, at the very least, will keep him off the pitch for a minimum of six weeks, though it could be a lot more.

Pogba’s three-month absence would mean that he will miss United’s remaining Champions League group stage matches, and five of the Red Devils’ top Premier League fixtures. United still have Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City on their agenda over the coming weeks and months.
However, boss Jose Mourinho insists that his side will be able to cope without him. Mourinho still has the likes of Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini, and Michael Carrick at his disposal.
The Portuguese tactician said: “There are good players more than ready to play so honestly we miss Pogba, we need Pogba, but we have good players – Herrera, Fellaini and Carrick are waiting for a real chance to start the matches.
“We lost important players last season during crucial moments of the season and we weren’t crying or getting excuses in about that. Squads are there to try to cope with these kind of situations. I don’t know how many, but we’re going to play without Pogba for a few matches but we have other players.”
