There is a reason that talks of David De Gea moving to Real Madrid have kept occupying the transfer news over the past few windows. The splendid shot-stopper is simply a wizard in front of the goal, and in the last few seasons in particular, the Spaniard has saved some memorable shots that could have been incredible goals.

Most recently, during Manchester United’s 4-0 victory against Everton on Sunday, he achieved something even more remarkable. David De Gea’s clean sheet against the Toffees was his 100th clean sheet at Manchester United. He has achieved this record in the 275 appearances he has made during his six years with the English giants.

In the match itself, while he wasn’t troubled much by the offensive tactics of Everton, he did make one great save to add to his collection, in a career riddled with brilliant stops.

He arrived at Old Trafford from Atletico Madrid in 2011, and since then, has cemented his spot as United’s no. 1, continuing the class of elite goalkeepers that the Red Devils have employed, like Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar.

The Great Dane holds the record for the most clean sheets, having kept 180 of them during his tenure, and supporters can be sure that De Gea shall look to surpass even that figure.

The Spaniard is clearly a fan favorite at the Theatre of Dreams, and is highly valued by the club. The cult status is evident from the fact that the shot-stopper has won the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award for three consecutive seasons, between 2013 and 2016.

It is certain that many great players, such as Coutinho, Aguero, and  Papiss Cisse, whose efforts and attempts at goal were thwarted by the 26-year-old, were left frustrated. These saves often came at crucial points in the game, and aided the Red Devils in salvaging many points.

With United looking increasingly dangerous this season, adamant to reclaim their spot at the helm of English football, supporters are undoubtedly assured that David De Gea will definitely save more and more during the course of their campaign.
