Diego Costa finally got his wish fulfilled on Thursday, after La Liga giants Atletico Madrid agreed terms with Chelsea to bring the striker back to the Spanish capital.

Costa was initially told by Chelsea boss Antonio Conte via a text message that his services weren’t required, and that he was not in the Italian’s future plans. This led to a major transfer saga, as the 28-year-old decided to stay put in Brazil even after his summer break was over.

Following much speculation since, it was announced on Thursday that Costa will reunite with Diego Simeone at his former club Atletico Madrid in January, once the winter transfer window opens, and Atletico’s ban on signing new players is lifted.

The Spanish international initially joined Atletico in 2007, and in his final two seasons at the club, he netted 56 goals, leading his side to La Liga silverware as well as the Champions League final in 2014.

And now, the controversial forward has returned to Madrid, and Atletico’s current star striker, Antoine Griezmann, seems to be particularly pleased with Costa’s return, as he expressed his delight on the social media platform once the official statement was released.

Griezmann took to Twitter, and tweeted: “Is coming hooome, Is coming hooome” in reference to the famous “Three Lions” song from David Baddiel and Frank Skinner.

But the question that still remains unanswered is that following the Spain international’s return, will the Frenchman finally switch to Old Trafford? The 26-year-old was heavily linked with Manchester United, but due to Atletico’s transfer ban, the move never materialized.

This same question was asked to Spanish football expert, Guillem Balague, and the answer received was quite ‘interesting,’ as he stated: “Not in January. In the summer, I think we are all aware he will try to leave. But do you really think United would be the only team that will want him?”

Hence, a serious bidding war for Griezmann seems to be on the cards, as Manchester United appear set to compete with the likes of Manchester City, Barcelona and even Real Madrid for the France international.
