United Furious As Important Player Set To Miss Champions League Clash Due To Injury

Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini will miss the Red Devils’ Champions League away game against CSKA Moscow on Wednesday, as per reports.
Fellaini suffered an outrageous challenge from Southampton striker Shane Long towards the end of the first half in United’s 1-0 Premier League win on Saturday. The Southampton star tackled the Belgian midfielder from behind, and caught his left leg, which left Fellaini in excruciating pain on the pitch.
Match official Craig Pawson issued only a yellow card to what looked like a definitive red, which has left the Red Devils furious. The Belgium international, however, played through the 90 minutes camouflaging his pain, but is now set to miss United’s trip to Russia, according to BBC reporter Simon Stone.
Simon wrote on his Twitter account: “Understand Fellaini not in Man Utd squad for Moscow due to ankle injury. Club furious at tackle from Long that led to injury.”

Jose Mourinho has already lost midfielder Paul Pogba to a hamstring injury, and now his replacement, Fellaini, has also checked his name into the club’s injury list. Furthermore, new summer signing, Nemanja Matic, also picked up a minor injury, but the Portuguese still has Ander Herrera and Michael Carrick at his disposal.
United legend Bryan Robson wrote in the Daily Mail today on how dealing with injuries would be vital for Mourinho if he wishes to challenge for the title. The column read: “Injuries will be key. The squad is strong but Pogba has his hamstring problem while Matic and Marouane Fellaini picked up knocks against Southampton.
“United can cope but won’t want too many injuries in the same area of the pitch, especially one as crucial as central midfield.”
