Pep Guardiola Claims He’ll Be Sacked If He Fails To Win Trophies
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will be hoping to secure a maiden trophy at the club after just one season in the Premier League.
The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager joined City last season, and signed a three year deal. Despite guiding the team to Champions League football, Pep could not win a single trophy last season. And now, according to BBC, the Spaniard has gone on to claim that all managers are judged by the trophies they win, and he needs to get ticking.
“I cannot deny it is to win titles. Everybody expects that. We are going to be judged on how many titles we win. [Without that], we will be a failure. We know that,” said Guardiola.
The former Barcelona man endured a successful time at the club as a manager, after winning 14 trophies that included two Champions League titles. Success in Spain was followed by another positive chapter in Germany at Bayern Munich. And after a trophyless campaign at City in his first season, he looks hungry as ever to succeed.
He went on to acknowledge that if he fails to win a trophy in England, his days will be numbered. “I do not know what is going to happen in the future. I am so happy to be here. But it will depend on the success we have. At big clubs like Manchester City, if you do not win you cannot stay,” he added.
City have been in supreme form this season, and lead the Premier League table by a superior goal difference over their local arch-rivals. The club has also got off to a 100% start in the Champions League too, as Pep will be hoping to reach far and clinch the major honour since his famous win in 2011.
